As 2022 comes to its end and 2023 approaches, it is a great opportunity to remember and reflect on what our group has achieved in the past few weeks. Since November, our team has had quite intensive days.
From mid- to late-November, besides working on DNA isolation of cataia (Pimenta pseudocaryophyllus), Erick and Gustavo traveled to Japan to build and sequence genotyping (MIG-seq) and phylogenetic markers (MPM-seq) libraries. Also, we had the chance to present our current research at the 20th International Symposium on Integrated Field Science "Biodiversity and Phylogeography".
Then, from 5th to 10th December, our group hosted the CAPES-JSPS Molecular Ecology workshop in Itamonte, Minas Gerais state. Japanese and Brazilian researchers and students gathered at the Instituto Alto Montana to discuss about current projects and perspectives on how molecular information may support ecological and evolutionary studies. To achieve this goal and plant seeds of new collaborative research, the program included oral presentations, field exploration, and many chances of personal connections.
After returning to São Vicente, Gabriel successfully defended his qualification exam! Congrats, Gabriel!!
Finally, on December 22nd, we learned that our proposal on adaptation and phenotypic plasticity of mangroves was accepted by FAPESP! This 5-years project will involve researchers from three universities (UNESP, USP and University of South Florida) and students who will benefit from this nascent network.
What a year!!! It was a long, busy, but productive year! Many thanks to the members of our laboratory!
Our efforts are paying off! Let 2023 begin!!!
